Bourton-on-the-Water is an excellent base for visiting the many beautiful Cotswold villages, famous for their honey-coloured stone cottages. The centre of the village is famous for the several low, arched bridges over the gently flowing River Windrush, flanked on one side by the village green, with benches should you wish to linger and absorb its charm. At Christmas, a huge Christmas Tree is erected in the middle of the river outside the Victoria Hall.
Bourton-on-the-Water is in a general position for easy access to Stratford-on-Avon, Cheltenham, Gloucester, and Oxford, with Bath worth a visit, although it is just slightly further afield.
For the visitor, attractions include the Cotswold Perfumery, Birdland and Trout Farm, Model Village, Dragonfly Maze, Railway Exhibition, and Motor Museum. There are also several excellent gift shops, and an Edinburgh Woollen Mill. For those enjoying short walks, there are tranquil lakes.
